Ford's V-6s trounce V-8s in F-150 for first time since '85

More than half of the Ford F-150 pickups sold last month came with a V-6 engine, marking the first time since 1985 that the six-cylinder powerplants are outselling the V-8s... That's pretty shocking considering how diehard pickup owners crave their V-8s. It's impressive given the risk that Ford took in tinkering with the pickup that is the nation's best-selling vehicle of any sort... "Both of our new V-6 powerplants are changing the way customers think about truck engines," said Doug Scott, Ford's truck group marketing manager. "The 3.7-liter has more horsepower than two of the three V8 engines we offered in last year's F-150."
